Studying in Canada can be a life-changing opportunity, but it's important to plan your finances carefully. As part of your study permit application, you must show that you have enough funds to support yourself (and any dependents) during your stay.
🧾 Minimum Proof of Funds (2025 – Outside Quebec)
To study in most parts of Canada, you must show that you have at least:
Tuition fees - (varies by school and program)
Living expenses:
- Student only : CAD $20,635 per year
- Spouse : additional CAD $5,000
- Per child : additional CAD $3,000 each
💡 This is the minimum. Some schools or visa officers may expect to see more.
✅ Acceptable Proof of Funds Includes:
Recent bank statements (yours or your sponsor’s)
Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) – required for SDS stream
Scholarship or financial aid letter
Proof of paid tuition and housing
Sponsor’s affidavit of support
and supporting documents (if someone else is funding you)
🎓 Other Financial Support Options:
Scholarships & Bursaries from Canadian schools or organizations
Part-time work while studying (up to 20 hrs/week)
On-campus jobs or co-op/internship programs
Education loans (from banks in your home country)
