Including Dependents in Your Study Permit Application

As an international student, you may be eligible to bring your dependents, such as your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children, with you to Canada while you study.

👩‍❤️‍👨 For Spouses or Common-Law Partners:

  • They may apply for an open work permit, allowing them to work full-time in Canada for the same duration as your study permit.

  • The open work permit does not require a job offer.

🧒 For Dependent Children:

  • Children may accompany you as visitors or apply for a study permit if they will attend school in Canada (kindergarten to high school).

  • They can study - tuition-free in most provinces at public schools if you’re enrolled in a post-secondary program.

📝 Requirements:

  • Include your family members in your application or apply for them separately.

  • You must show:

    - proof of funds to support them while in Canada (e.g., additional living expenses, housing, etc.).

    - Submit documents like marriage certificate, birth certificates, passports, and proof of relationship.
